Our course leader on No 23 Cadet Course, Alan Rackham, told us he had been stationed at St Marys as a ministry employed controller on terms he said were the same as H & I Airports; Lands End was also operated ths way.
When the ministry (varously MTCA, MOA and others) disposed of many airports (including Blackbushe, Southampton and Bovingdon) to become private ie non ministry operated airports in or around 1960 I’m not sure

Aquila Airways made a couple of trial flights to St Mary’s from Falmouth with converted Sunderlands in the late 1940s but no regular service followed
