I visited Hatfield Open Day in July 1962 and during the climb up the stairs to the tower I noticed an office with the sign “J Cunningham, Chief Test Pilot” on the door. It rather freaked me out; sadly he wasn’t there.

I spent the first 11 years of my life living in east St Albans. Only now looking at the Jeppesens chart do I realise how close we were to the airfield.
