The trials of the Harrier GR5 gun were done from here. And the out come wasnt good. The gun was frequently stopping after one round. The gun was the 25mm one that the USMC used and eventually MOD decided that the Harrier GR5 and the subsequent marks would have no gun. The question I have to ask is why they didnt use the 30mm gun that the GR3 and Sea Harrier used? And despite it being called the GR5 it had no recce capability.
And Im curious as to when the picture with the Harriers was taken. The Harrier GR3s are in two tone camouflage, IIRC Harriers went over to being painted all green circa 1986.
Why is Wellesbourne Mountford not included? It was a Wellington OCU and several operational sorties left fron there also.
(Now a very successful civil airfield)

I think the photo dates to July 1987, operation Purple Hazard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exercise_Purple_Warrior
