The Canberra is at RNAS Sydenham/RAF Belfast/Belfast Harbour/Belfast City/George Best Aerodrome/Airfield/Airport. The site has quite a history.
The Canberra is XH129, a PR9. It never made it into RAF service, see XH129
The Shorts factory on Queens Island Belfast in 1943. the aircraft are Sunderland Mk IIIs, our coastal command guru tells me that
Short Tigercat anti aircraft missile system that saw service with one squadron of the the RAF Regiment from 1967. The date of this photo is uncertain, I don’t remember Sydenham having an AR1/Watchman radar when i was at Aldergrove 1969-76, only a 424/ACR6. The tower/Canberra photo at the top of the post is dated 1958 with no roof top radar (its too early for an AR1 or Watchman at that date anyway).
Short Belfast dated 1964/5
When I went to ATC Summer Camp at RAF Ballykelly* back in 1963, the boat from Heysham to Belfast took us past the shipyards but I never even noticed the adjacent airport, which hadn’t yet opened to civil public transport.
*Notable for having a railway line crossing the airfield!
