  1. I’m in that photo! It is the S259 mobile radar that we (RAF) took down to Ascension at the start of the Falklands war. We are a mixture of operators, controllers and technicians from various stations around the UK and were there for about 3 – 4 months.

      1. I was Trade Group 12 – Aerospace Systems Operator (Scopie). I was stationed at USST RAF Wattisham at the time.

  2. At the time of the Falklands war Pan Am operated the airfield under contract to the USAF, they also provided the fire cover.

    The only RAF ATC personnel Ive ever heard of being stationed here were AATCs in the various ops rooms.

    I was serving in 82 and I dont recognise anyone in the picture. I suspect that they are technicians from Tactical Comms Wing.
