RAF Finningley

RAF Finningley 1977 Canberra WJ680.

Thanks to Richard Elwell and Ian S for identifying this as the Silver Jubilee Royal Review. Finningley didn’t hold a Battle of Britain air show that year. Instead the review (which included the presentation of a new Queens Colour) took place on a Friday with a public air show on the Saturday.

Now how about a picture of the tower?

  2. My guess is it is a temporary structure for the 1977 Silver Jubilee flypast. Following time at EGXC for BFTS (PDs etc), I was on Wet Dreams at EGXI 1979/1980 then revisited in 1981 to intrude on an exercise. Along with some subsequent PDs etc, I’ve no recollection of that structure and hope I’d would have taken more than a passing ex-CAA interest despite preoccupation with driving.
