  1. When I was at Heathrow ’79-’84, the ASMI was displayed in the VCR on a raster (TV) display like the one in the picture. There was a scan converter consisting of a TV camera looking at a PPI-type display driven direct from the ASMI.

    I understand originally there were PPI displays in the VCR, but presumably these were less than ideal in a daylight environment. The picture also shows LTE (valve-driven) voice comms so must be a fair while before I was there when it was all RDCE.
